Requesting an 085 number
Phone has to be enabled on your subscription first. If the dashboard says it isn't yet, ask Twilper to enable it. You can prepare your call routing in the meantime.
Step 1: Open "Request a business number (085 or 058)"
Go to "Channels" → "Phone". Choose "National 085 number" (recommended) or "Regional 058 number"; a 058 number requires a business address in the Leeuwarden region.
Step 2: Enter your business details
Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) extract, plus address, postcode and city. A VAT number is optional.
Step 3: Add your KvK extract
Upload a Chamber of Commerce extract no older than 3 months, as a PDF, JPG or PNG of up to 10 MB. Click "Request number".
Step 4: Wait for the review
The Dutch telecom regulator checks your business, usually within 1 to 3 business days. There's nothing you need to do. Then the number shows as active.
Connecting your existing number
Want to keep your current number? "Connect an existing number" offers three ways.
- Forwarding: you keep your number and provider, and forward calls to your Twilper number. Choose your provider and the dashboard shows the codes, such as always forward, on no answer or when busy. You need a Twilper number first.
- Port your number: your number moves to Twilper. Fill in the request and our team guides the switch; nothing is ported automatically. Don't cancel your old contract until the number has been ported.
- SIP or phone system (PBX): on request, together with your administrator or supplier.
More details, including the GSM codes, are on the Connect your existing number page: twilper.com/integrations/phone.
Setting up your call routing
Step 1: Choose the call handling
Under "Call handling", choose what happens with a call: "Call group: ring together" (up to 10 numbers, and optionally your team's Twilper apps), "Queue: manual pickup", the AI assistant, a "Phone menu" or "Forwarding".
Step 2: Set your opening hours
Enter your "Opening hours", for example "mon-fri 09:00-17:00; sat 10:00-13:00". Empty means always open. Then choose what happens "Outside opening hours": the AI assistant answers, voicemail, or a closed message.
Step 3: Greeting and language
Choose the "Default line language" and enter the "Business name for AI greeting". Callers always hear that they're talking to an AI assistant.
Step 4: Check and save
"Simulate call routing" shows what would happen on a call, without actually calling. Click "Save routing".
Voicemail and missed calls
- Switch on "Allow voicemail" so callers can leave a message when nobody answers or outside opening hours. Voicemail recording is enabled per line; until then callers hear your closed message.
- Did someone hang up before your team, the AI or voicemail could help? The conversation appears in your inbox marked for a call back, and your team gets an email and a push notification ("Follow up on missed calls").
- During a call with the AI, the caller can press 0 or ask for a person. The call then goes to your call group or queue.
Good to know
- "Call usage" shows your minutes per month and lets you set a monthly limit. At the limit, outgoing calls pause; incoming calls keep working.
- You don't need your own Twilio account. Twilper handles the technical connection.
- Live calling is switched on once the number, verification and connection are ready. "Phone setup progress" shows which step is still needed.
- With the Twilper app you can also answer calls from the call group or queue on your phone.
