Connecting your mailbox
Step 1: Open Channels
Go to "Channels" in the menu and choose the "Email" tab.
Step 2: Connect your mailbox manually
Under "Connect email", choose "Connect another email provider manually" and enter your mailbox's IMAP and SMTP details (see below).
Step 3: Test the connection
After connecting, Twilper tests the connection. New emails then appear in your "Shared inbox". Use "Sync now" to fetch them right away.
Mailboxes are connected with IMAP/SMTP. Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes are not supported yet: Twilper does not request access to Gmail, and Gmail login details over IMAP are blocked. A Microsoft 365 connection is planned and not yet available.
Connecting email in the setup wizard
You can also connect your mailbox straight from the setup wizard.
- You connect your mailbox with IMAP/SMTP. Server settings are ready for common providers: TransIP, Strato, one.com, Hostnet, KPN, Ziggo, iCloud and Yahoo. You then only enter your email address and (app) password.
- Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes can't be connected yet, also not with a Gmail app password over IMAP.
Connecting manually with IMAP and SMTP
You need your provider's IMAP and SMTP details. You fill in a mailbox name, email address, and the username, app password, port and security for both IMAP and SMTP. Then click "Test and add mailbox".
- Use an app password instead of your normal password where possible.
- Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes are not supported yet.
Your email signature
Step 1: Open the settings
Go to "Settings" and choose the "Email" tab.
Step 2: Write your signature
Enter your signature under "Email signature" (up to 2,000 characters) and save.
The signature is added below every email you send from the inbox through a connected mailbox. Only owners and admins can change it.
Emailing replies to website visitors who already left
Did a visitor leave their email address in the chat and close the page before you replied? Twilper can send them your reply by email.
Step 1: Open the notification settings
Go to "Settings" and choose the "Notifications" tab.
Step 2: Switch the option on
Tick "Email replies to website visitors who already left". This option is on by default.
Twilper sends at most one email per 10 minutes, and never for AI replies: only for replies from your team.
Good to know
- If you disconnect a mailbox, the conversations already in your inbox are kept.
- Twilper never deletes emails from your mailbox.
- Under "Notifications" you can also get an email whenever a new conversation starts.
- AI suggestions for email only create a draft when a team member asks for one; nothing is ever sent automatically.
